How Are YOU Going to Embrace New Marketing in 2007?

It’s a new year for us all. We get to start fresh. Set new goals. Reach yet again for the always elusive golden ring.

What are your goals for the upcoming year in the new marketing space? I’d love to hear one from each of our readers to form a nice little collective of what everyone finds important in the coming year.

Personally for me I’m going to focus a lot on helping people develop their personal brand. Companies have a hold on why this is important and for the most part are doing ok making the transition to this new world where the consumer/user/fan is in control of their own thoughts around a brand and can share them with the world. But, I want to work with the every day person who wants to make their presence known to the world through their own brand.

I’ve talked about this a lot on my podcast Managing the Gray and people always seemed amaze that anyone can do it. So, I’m adopting it as my personal area to work on in the coming year with people.

This will reach into places like Second Life, blogging and other forms of content creation (podcasting, etc.). But, I also think that it will focus on individuals truly focusing on who they are and what they want to be. They are not always the same.

All of this applies to companies as well. Do you know what your brand is? Is it what you want it to be? Stop and think about it.

That’s what I’m going to be personally up to. What about you?

  • My overall goal is to get good at helping clients use blogs etc. to build their personalities, and thus to sell more product. We know a lot about PPC and SEO, and how to make clients win big with those is well-known, so going off the edge in to the "I hope this works" space is the big challenge.

Also, I am building a client services team from scratch to handle our internet marketing agency's growth, so finding talented people I can count on is a big goal.
  • I plan to increase the listeners of our podcast, Two Boobs and a Baby. I also hope to create my own personal podcast, that will be based around new media marketing.

I have a wealth of knowledge in marketing and promotions, and a rich history from BBSing to Web Design. I've worked in live theatre, print, radio, and television.

I think 2007 is going to be incredible. Now, I just need complete this pesky green card application! Sigh.

    Cheers,
    Dave
  • My goal is to step out of my comfort zone and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. I just started listening to an audio book "Blown to Bits: How the new economics of information transforms strategy" by Philip Evans and Thomas Wurster- This is a keystone, I think, for the new year- how to look at economic and market fundamentals to help businesses succeed in a rapidly changing marketplace- This is the year to find a flexible business paradigm for new media companies, and assert our value. The core questions are going to be brand management and what can be bundled or unbundled from traditional business lines and succeed? At the core, however, is that information and originality with passion will triumph long term over the "flash" and hype. Let's hope the money pouring into the space doesn't lead to bubble and bust very soon- we have to keep the silly ideas at bay and keep value add at the top of the list.
  • Not a goal, but I do have a theme for 2007 for myself, personally - ‚ÄúOn Ko Chi Shin‚Äù, which roughly translates as ‚ÄúStudy something old to learn something new‚Äù. This year I‚Äôll be focusing on improving the reach of my personal network, learning more about video on the Internet, and mastering the Heart Sutra for my Buddhist practice.
