Still time for imagination

Well, we’ve arrived at the first major milestone in the Coca-Cola Virtual Thirst contest – today, May 25, is the closing date for the submission of entries.

We’ve already received some terrific entries. Imaginative, creative, fun. We’ve been blown away by the sheer quality of those ideas.

If you’re thinking of entering, you still have time if you act quickly – you have until midnight US Eastern time today (that’s 5:00am GMT on May 26) to get your entry in!

Not sure what Virtual Thirst is about? It’s simple:

  • We ‘ve invited the world to use the Second Life platform to design and prototype the ultimate Coke machine – something that delivers an innovative, engaging experience in Second Life. Check out the prototype experiences in the Coke Pavilion in Second Life.
  • It’s a chance for anyone with a vivid imagination to design an experience that embodies the ‘Coke Side of Life’ in a way that enhances their lives and the lives of others within Second Life.
  • If you can imagine it, you can participate.

So the contest is about your ideas, with the winning idea becoming (virtual) reality by being built and made available within Second Life. The winner also gets 500,000 Linden dollars, the currency of Second Life.

Full details at www.virtualthirst.com.

There are 4 easy ways to enter:

  1. Via email from the Virtual Thirst website
  2. Upload a video to YouTube
  3. In Second Life at the Coke Pavilion
  4. Friend us on MySpace

So don’t wait a second longer – get imagining by midnight US Eastern time today May 25.

Final Week to Enter

The Virtual Thirst campaign has been going strong and you have submitted some amazing ideas, but we are hoping for more.

This Friday is the last day you can submit ideas. Don’t forget that you can enter as many times as you want and it can be as easy as just sending in an e-mail with a description of your idea. Or fire up that video camera and talk about your idea to the camera and share it via YouTube. The key is to use YOUR imagination to come up with a fun filled idea.

Of course if you are already an active Second Lifer then swing on by the Coke Pavilion and write your idea down on a note card and drop it on the bottle as a submission. We’ve got parties happening on Wednesday and Friday which is a great time to swing by and submit your idea.

A free trip to San Francisco, the chance to work with Millions of Us on seeing your idea turned into a reality and L$500,000 (the currency of Second Life) to spend however you wish.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Moshang Zhao Chills Out Crayonville

I’m a huge music fan. I consume music like air and get excited whenever I hear live music that excites me. Last night in the Coke Pavilion we had a special treat when South African born, and now living in Taiwan MoShang Zhao performed what he calls Chinese Chill for a crowd of appreciative avatars. His music can be found on iTunes and CD Baby.

This was another in the series of live events being held to raise awareness for Virtual Thirst. The hope was that people would come because of the performers and the music and thus find out about the campaign. I know I talked with one woman last night who showed up because she is a fan of MoShang, but by the end of the night had submitted an idea for the contest in world which I thought was great. She had read up on what was going on and her imagination was sparked.

There is another DJ Dance party tonight with the theme of “Jocks & Jams” so come on out in your best sports themed outfit. DJ Diva will once again be spinning tunes.

Next week we’ve got more live music with confirmed performances from Rich Desoto and Matthew Ebel.

Jaffe Dropping Some Knowledge

A few weeks back Joe spoke at MIPTV, a conference in Cannes. This conference served as the global content event for co-producing, buying, selling, financing and distributing entertainment content across all platforms. It offers the opportunity to discover future trends and trade content rights on a global level. Here you can find a video stream or podcast to Joe’s presentation. You can also find other presentations by business leaders such as Philip Rosdale, CEO Linden Lab & Founder of Second Life.
