…and by “we”, I mean me and my fellow-crayonista, (and social media Boy-Toy) Greg Verdino. Not only are we going to hang with the TechSet, maybe hit some Karaoke, and be social in a way that, well, isn’t me, but we have actual WORK to be done!
Two of crayon’s clients, ooVoo and Panasonic, will each be participating at SXSW.
I’ll be one of the people staffing the booth (#231!) for ooVoo, where they’ve announced the official debut of its open API - so they’ll be lots of demos and question-answering. And all you developers? Ask about the App Store that ooVoo’s putting together to showcase your applications – oh, and also make some money. Another sneak peak? Contests for the best application (and there are multiple categories) – if you ask, I bet someone will even suggest some apps to start. BTW – I’ll be looking for an iPhone app, once Apple opens the camera to video.
Also – another crayon client, Panasonic’s Living in HD Community, is one of the sponsors of the live Diggnation event on Saturday Night at Stubbs (see Event info/RSVP here and here). I’m really enjoying working with the Revision3 guys (Hi, Ryan!) and am really excited to show off the community (and announce some cool contests!) to this audience.
So – if you’re going to SXSW, let me know, it would be great to say Hi!
For the first time in a dozen or so years, I’ll be making a pilgrimage to the International Consumer Electronics Show, happening in Las Vegas on January 8th – January 11th. This time around, I’m going courtesy of crayon client Panasonic and I’ll be blogging, vlogging, photologging and Tweeting about my experience the whole time.
Exciting for me but that’s not the real story. The real story is that I will be joined by five social media guests (plus my doppelganger Jaffe) that Panasonic has invited to document and share their own CES experiences with their communities. This program is one of several things that we’ve been working on for Panasonic — look for more programs to go live in the coming weeks — and it’s a worthy experiment in how large companies can partner with citizen journalists, if I don’t say so myself (which I must since I had a hand in putting the program together.)
The Solutions Stars Video Conference is happening October 29th at 1pm. A number of social media luminaries (listed below) – the kind that you usually pay a couple thousand to see – have participated in this incredible event.
The format: Videos will be uploaded one at a time, one after the other and will focus on the following nine areas:
Building Web Presence
The Social Opportunity
Start with Listening
Strategy Drives Outreach
You Need Social Networks
To Blog or Not to Blog
Visibility Through Search
Rising Above the Noise
Time Demands
And when Network Solutions says “stars” they mean it. Take a quick look of the participants:
One of the things I love about this event is that it’s such a cool format – with budgets getting cut and time at a premium, you’re able to experience the best part of an A-level conference without the headache of air travel and seeing all of those people you don’t like anyway.
(Not you. I totally can’t wait to see you again.)
The other cool thing – you can participate! There’s a live chat room, where you can talk amongst yourselves, as well as the ability to ask real-time questions of Now is Gone’sGeoff Livingston and Network Solutions Shashi Bellamkonda.
And of course you have the option to share what’s going on to your social networks and also track this event on Twitter by the #solutionsstars hashtag (What’s a hashtag?).

Whether you’re a political junkie or not, it’s difficult to deny that the 2008 Presidential Election will be one for the history books. OK — I suppose all presidential races make their way into the history books, but Obama vs McCain will be one of the hottest races that we’ve seen in a long time.Tapping into the political zeitgeist, and springboarding off the success our first My ooVoo Day program, we’re proud to announce My ooVoo Day With… Political Edition.
(Y’all know that ooVoo is a crayon client, but in the interest of full disclosure I figured I’d mention it anyway.)
Beginning next week — and running through early August — ooVoo will enable a series of multi-person video chats, hosted by 25 or so political pundits, bloggers and online commentators. The hosts represent the conservative and liberal camps (and everything in between), and will tackle a wide variety of election year topics — so no matter where you fall on the political spectrum or what issues get you riled up, there’s bound to be a conversation that will spark your interest.
Check out the host profiles and schedules at the My ooVoo Day site, sign up for some of the 6-person chats, and while you’re at it be sure to download ooVoo if you aren’t already a subscriber. Let’s caucus!
Qik lifestreamer LenEdgerly captured most of the hour+ session on video. The audio is a bit dodgy but if you’re interested in getting a sense of how it went and what we discussed, check out Part 1 and Part 2.
The third iteration of PodCamp Boston rolls into town (’town’ being Boston, of course) on July 18th, 19th and 20th — just a week and a half from now. crayon client ooVoo is a PCB sponsor and would like to pay your way into the event.
They only have 20 PodCamp ’scholarships’ to give away and, of course, you’ll need to meet some simple criteria:
You need to be a college student and have the .edu email address to prove it.
You need to have or sign up for ooVoo’s multi-person online video chat service (ooVoo Standard is free.)
You need to be one of the first 20 people who meets the criteria to email us at ooVoo@crayonville.com with all the pertinent information.
Recipients will need to cover their own travel expenses but with PCB tickets selling for $50 a pop, this is a great opportunity to hear lots of fantastic presentations and make lots of social media friends while saving a few bucks.
Sound interesting? Of course, it does.
If you’re a student, we hope you’ll give it a shot and see if you’re one of the lucky 20. If you know students who might be interested, we hope you’ll help us spread the word.
One of the best things about being a crayonista is that we get to work with really cool clients that have great products. One such client is ooVoo, a provider of internet video technology that lets up to six people chat in real time. All you need is the free software, a broadband connection and a web cam.
As a virtual company, we use ooVoo to connect with one another and our clients every day — and we love it (I’d say that even if they weren’t a client.) So we wanted to come up with a way to demonstrate just how cool, fun and useful ooVoo can be.
My ooVoo Day is (to my knowledge) a first-of-its-kind event that let’s twenty or so bloggers, podcasters, authors and fixtures of the digital media scene connect with their fans in a series of multi-user video conversations. Not (as the name might apply) just one day, the 20+ hosts will hold dozens of 6-person sessions over the course of a two week period beginning this Sunday, February 10th.
Today Coca-Cola, crayon and Millions of Us held a mixed-reality event in Atlanta and on crayonville Island to unveil the winner of Virtual Thirst, our competition that invited Second Life residents to design virtual vending machines that dispense not cans of Coke but the “essence of Coca-Cola.” The winning entry — designed by Ann Marie Mathis / Emerie May — is a series of “Puzzle Bottles” that dispense cool interactive experiences and Coke-branded virtual gifts.
Now that the Coca-Cola Puzzle Bottles have been unveiled, the program enters a new phase — one powered entirely by the Second Life community.
Puzzle solvers can copy the prizes they receive and gift them to their friends, land owners can place bottles on their property and the interactive experiences can be shared by anyone that happens to be nearby when a resident solves a puzzle. In other words, rather than taking the standard marketer approach of sinking money into an island and hoping to attract residents to visit the brand, Coke is giving residents the power to distribute the Coca-Cola brand essence throughout Second Life, wherever and however they see fit. Ah – virtual world marketing the way it was meant to be…
But enough talk — why not check out the Coca-Cola Puzzle Bottles for yourself. You can find the first three at the following locations:
You may recall the launch of the the Coca-Cola Virtual Thirst promotion in Second Life that crayon sponsored. It began with a call for submissions from the community and the challenge was met with lots of great ideas to design a machine that will dispense “the essence of Coca-Cola” to residents of Second Life.
Well, this Thursday, November 8th, at 1pm Eastern/10am Second Life Time, it’s all going to culminate as Coke, crayon, The Advance Guard and Millions of Us will unveil the winning entry. And you are cordially invited.
If you’d like to attend the ‘unveiling’ and be among the first to see the winning entry, just send your avatar name to celebrity@millionsofus.com and request access. The event takes place in-world on crayonville Island and you need to be on the guest list to during the unveiling, so reserve your spot right away.
